Foot passengers & bicycles

For foot passengers and cyclists, Rostock - Trelleborg is one of the most convenient ferry links to Sweden: in Rostock the bus takes you right to the terminal, and in Trelleborg check-in is at the station or a few minutes from it. The two ferry companies do handle a fair amount differently, though, from the times to the number of bicycles allowed.

Getting there without a car in Rostock

Buses stop at Seehafen Fähre, right in front of Stena Line's Ferry Centre. From the town centre there are two routes there:

• Via Lütten Klein: take S-Bahn line S1 towards Warnemünde to Lütten Klein, then bus 45 or 49.
• Via Dierkower Kreuz: take tram 2 or 3 to Dierkower Kreuz, then bus 45, 49 or 19.

Buses run every 30 minutes Monday to Saturday and hourly on Sundays. For an early departure or a Sunday journey, plan the connection in advance. By bike you ride straight into the port; the location of both terminals is shown on the Rostock ferry port page.

Check-in and boarding on foot

With TT-Line you check in at the TT-Line terminal and then travel to the ship by shuttle bus. With TT-Line you can only travel on foot on departures and arrivals between 05:00 and 24:00. For early and late departures, check the arrival time too. With Stena Line you check in at the Ferry Centre, at the latest 60 minutes before departure, and a terminal bus takes you to the ship 30 minutes before departure.

In Trelleborg, check-in for the return crossing starts in town, not at the port:

• TT-Line: self-service check-in at the main station, Kontinentplan 2. Check-in closes 45 minutes before departure, and the shuttle to the ship also leaves 45 minutes before. The station is closed between 02:00 and 04:30.
• Stena Line: check-in at Hamngatan 9, less than five minutes' walk from the station, then by shuttle bus to the terminal.

Bicycles on board

Both ferry companies carry bicycles, which stand on the vehicle deck during the crossing. With TT-Line you book up to five bikes per booking; bikes on a car's rear rack don't need to be booked separately there. With Stena Line it's one bicycle per person.

At Rostock port, TT-Line cyclists check in with their bike at the self-service kiosk, and you wear a high-visibility vest within the port grounds. In Trelleborg, cyclists check in with TT-Line at the main station, just like foot passengers. If you arrive with TT-Line in Trelleborg, you leave the port by shuttle bus, not by bike.

For e-bikes: with Stena Line, the battery stays on the bike on the vehicle deck, and with TT-Line you don't charge batteries in the cabin. So charge the battery fully before departure.

On board without a car

Without a car, you simply take your luggage with you to your seat or cabin. With TT-Line there's no obligation to book a cabin from Rostock; there are Pullman seats and cabins. With Stena Line you choose between a reclining seat, a sleeping berth and a cabin; payment on board is by card only. What else the ships offer is on the TT-Line and Stena Line pages.
