TT-Line and Stena Line sell the Rostock - Trelleborg crossing at dynamic prices: travel date, departure, vehicle, cabin and booking time determine the amount, and you see today's price at the booking step. Both ferry companies work to the same pattern: one vehicle including the driver, plus each additional person and, if you want one, a cabin. So compare the final total for the same departure: day versus night ferry, weekday and school holidays move the price more than the choice of ferry company.

On this route, the gap between the cheapest departure and a school-holiday one is the biggest lever: book early and travel on a weekday, and you'll pay noticeably less for the same crossing than on a summer weekend.
Day ferry or night ferry: what it costs
On the day ferry you don't need a cabin; a seat on board is included in the ticket. On the night ferry, most travellers add a cabin. It isn't compulsory: with TT-Line you can travel from Rostock at night in a Pullman seat too, and Stena Line offers reclining seats and sleeping berths alongside cabins. If you're travelling by motorhome, you can't sleep in the vehicle: with TT-Line the vehicle deck is locked for the crossing.
Vehicles: what sets the price
With both ferry companies, the vehicle's total length and height count, including roof box, bike rack and trailer. With Stena Line, a car up to 2 metres high counts as a normal car; with a roof box above that you book the category "car up to 6 m long, over 2 m high". TT-Line charges trailers by every metre started, including the tow bar. Car-and-trailer combinations up to 17 metres travel there at the passenger fare. Motorbikes and bicycles are booked with both ferry companies as their own vehicle class. Bikes on a rack or on the roof of a car don't need to be booked separately with TT-Line.
Booking flexibly
Whether you can cancel or rebook depends on the fare you booked. TT-Line offers a fare called FLEX, which lets you rebook and cancel free of charge up to 24 hours before departure. How to save on this route
- Book early. Both ferry companies' cheapest fares sell out first, especially for vehicles in the summer holidays.
- Travel outside the holidays. If you're flexible, compare several days; weekdays often still have cheaper fares available.
- Book outbound and return together. Both ferry companies give a discount on the return.
- Compare both ferry companies. The departure times are close together, the prices aren't always.
- Seat instead of cabin. On the day ferry a seat is enough; at night a Pullman seat or sleeping berth is the cheaper choice.

Usually yes. Both ferry companies give a discount when you book the outbound and return together; with Stena Line it applies to the same cabin category on both legs.
Do I need a cabin? +
No. From Rostock there's no obligation to book a cabin with TT-Line, even at night; you can travel in a Pullman seat. Stena Line offers reclining seats and sleeping berths alongside cabins. For the night ferry, though, a cabin is still the most comfortable choice.
