Two ferry companies, one address

The ferries to Trelleborg leave from Rostock port (Überseehafen), at the mouth of the Warnow. Both ferry companies give the same address, Zum Fährterminal 1, but their check-in areas sit in different spots within the port. It's safest to enter your ferry company's coordinates into your sat nav:

Which ferry company covers your departure is shown on your ticket and, for every departure, in the timetable. If you booked a departure of the M/S Skåne or the M/S Mecklenburg-Vorpommern through TT-Line, you're travelling with Stena Line.

Getting there by car

The port sits at the end of the A19, so you drive straight to the terminal without a detour through the city. From the direction of Lübeck, take the A20 and switch to the A19 as far as the Rostock Überseehafen exit; from there the Ost-West-Straße leads to the port. From the direction of Berlin, take the A24 to the Wittstock interchange, then the A19 north to the port.

Build in a buffer for the final kilometres: Stena Line closes check-in 60 minutes before departure, TT-Line for vehicles 30 minutes before.

Parking

The port has short-term parking, some of it free and some paid, and paid long-term parking for anyone travelling to Sweden without a car. TT-Line also points to paid parking within the port. Locations and rates are listed by the port operator on rostock-port.de.

By S-Bahn, tram and bus

Without a car you can reach the port by rail and bus. Buses stop at Seehafen Fähre, right in front of Stena Line's Ferry Centre. Two routes get you there:

• Via Lütten Klein: take S-Bahn line S1 towards Warnemünde to Lütten Klein, then bus 45 or 49 to Seehafen Fähre.
• Via Dierkower Kreuz: take tram 2 or 3 to Dierkower Kreuz, then bus 45, 49 or 19 to Seehafen Fähre.

Buses run every 30 minutes Monday to Saturday and hourly on Sundays. For an early morning departure or a Sunday journey, it's worth checking the local transport timetable. From the Ferry Centre you can't continue on foot with Stena Line: a terminal bus takes you to the ship 30 minutes before departure. With TT-Line you check in at the TT-Line terminal and travel to the ship by shuttle bus.

At the terminal

Stena Line's Ferry Centre is open Monday to Saturday from 05:30 to 22:30 and Sunday from 08:15 to 22:00. There you'll find a café, a restaurant, a cash machine, a currency exchange and a duty-free shop. Payment at Stena Line's port is by card only.

TT-Line's terminal has a bistro, open from 05:00 to 22:00, a shop and toilets. Vehicles and bicycles check in with TT-Line at self-service kiosks, which open around two hours before departure.

Before departure

The check-in process, with all deadlines by ferry company, is described on the Check-in page. Cyclists wear a high-visibility vest in the port.
